Mizzou Columns

The Mizzou Columns, also known as the Columns of Academic Hall, are a historic landmark and symbol of the University of Missouri-Columbia (commonly referred to as Mizzou). They are located on the Francis Quadrangle, which is the central quad of the university’s campus in Columbia, Missouri.

The Mizzou Columns are the only remaining part of the original Academic Hall, which was the first building on the university campus. Academic Hall was constructed in the late 19th century and served as the main administrative and classroom building until it was destroyed by a fire in 1892. After the fire, only the six Ionic columns that formed the portico of the building’s entrance remained standing.

The Columns have since become an iconic symbol of the University of Missouri and are featured prominently in university branding, logos, and imagery. They represent the history, tradition, and academic excellence of the institution.

The Mizzou Columns are a popular gathering spot for students, visitors, and alumni. They serve as a backdrop for graduation ceremonies, celebrations, and other events on campus.
