St. Louis University Destroys Georgia

March Madness Has St. Louisans Going Wild

In a dominant display, ninth-seeded Saint Louis University blew out Georgia 102-77 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Buffalo, N.Y. It was the Billikens’ first March Madness win since 2014 and capped a historic season where they set a school record with their 29th victory.

Dion Brown led the charge, scoring 18 points on nearly flawless 9-of-10 shooting, with all of his baskets coming from high-percentage layups and dunks. Saint Louis used a blistering 23-0 run spanning the half, which included 11 consecutive baskets in the paint, to demoralize Georgia. Their physical offense translated into 66 points in the paint and 58% shooting overall. Defensively, the Billikens’ nation-leading unit limited the Bulldogs to just 35% from the field.

Bulldogs guard Jeremiah Wilkinson provided a bright spot with a 30-point performance, but Georgia coach Mike White admitted his team was ill-prepared for the onslaught. The loss was the most lopsided of the season for Georgia, ending a year with the most regular-season wins in their program history.

Up next, Saint Louis University faces a monumental challenge against top-seeded Michigan on Saturday, with their sights set on a first-ever Sweet 16 appearance.
