Here are the most fun locations to lace up the skis and the skates for some outdoor fun in the Show Me State.

The snow and cold are here, so it’s time to get outside and enjoy some Winter activities in Missouri. If outdoor ice skating is your thing, there are several excellent options. The two places to snow ski are below.

1. Crown Center Ice Terrace (Kansas City)

Celebrating its 53rd season, this is the definitive Kansas City winter experience. It’s open through March 8, 2026. Located right in the heart of downtown, it’s surrounded by festive lights and the Hallmark headquarters.

2. Centene Community Ice Center (Maryland Heights)

While primarily an indoor facility, they feature an impressive outdoor utility rink that hosts public sessions. It’s a great St. Louis alternative while Steinberg is under construction.

3. Big Cedar Lodge (Ridgedale)

For a scenic “winter wonderland” vibe, head south to the Ozarks. Their outdoor rink overlooks Table Rock Lake and typically stays open through late January. Your ticket usually includes a commemorative beanie and hot cocoa.

4. Old Kinderhook (Camdenton)

Ice skating at the Lake of the Ozarks is just special. And Old Kinderhook is a great place to do it. The rink area features a nearby fire pit, a Christmas village, and specialized cabin menu.

5. Cassidy Station at Estes Farms (Nixa)

A popular southern Missouri spot located near Springfield, offering skating under lights with s’mores and food trucks. But please note this is an artificial ice platform. It’s more like slippery wax, but fun nonetheless.

6. Bass Pro Shops National Headquarters (Springfield)

This outdoor rink is just steps away from the Bass Pro Shops Grandaddy Store. Enjoy seasonal food and beverage, a lively soundtrack paired with dancing lights and glowing displays, plus exclusive glow merchandise to make your experience shine even brighter. This one just closed for the season on January 4th, so be ready for next year.

7. Steinberg Skating Rink (St. Louis)

This is the largest outdoor rink in the Midwest. Refurbishment should be done soon, so it will reopen for skating in late 2026.

Skiing in Missouri

Missouri is home to two primary ski resorts, both operated by Vail Resorts. Because Missouri isn’t exactly the Swiss Alps, both resorts rely heavily on massive snowmaking systems to stay operational. But there are still great places for these Winter activities in Missouri.

1. Hidden Valley Ski Resort (Wildwood/Eureka)

Located about 30 minutes west of St. Louis, this is the larger of the two.

  • The Stats: It features 15 trails and a 310-foot vertical drop.
  • Best For: Variety. It has more “advanced” terrain (by Missouri standards) and two terrain parks.
  • 2026 Status: Currently fully operational. As of late January, they’ve had a strong season with a 24-inch base and several trails groomed daily.
  • Extra Fun: Their Polar Plunge Tubing Park is one of the most popular in the region, but it often requires separate, timed reservations.

2. Snow Creek (Weston)

Located about 45 minutes north of Kansas City.

  • The Stats: 12 trails and a 300-foot vertical drop.
  • Best For: Families and beginners. It has a very laid-back atmosphere and a dedicated learning area.
  • 2026 Status: Open and spinning. They typically operate on a modified schedule (opening at 4:00 PM on weekdays and 9:00 AM on weekends).
  • Night Life: Famous for “Midnight Madness” events on select Friday/Saturday nights where you can ski until 12:00 AM.
