For decades, this 476-acre stretch of land along Sinking Creek was a “hush-hush” destination for very different reasons. Long before it was a state park, it was home to Camp Zoe, a legendary youth camp that started in 1929. By the early 2000s, however, the vibe shifted dramatically. The land became famous—or perhaps infamous—for hosting “Schwagstock,” a series of massive, jam-band music festivals.
While the music was legendary, the “less-than-wholesome” activities eventually caught the attention of federal authorities. Following a high-profile seizure of the property, the land was sold to the state of Missouri. In 2016, it officially reopened as Echo Bluff State Park, transforming from a chaotic party zone into the “crown jewel” of the Missouri state park system.
Today, the park is a masterpiece of modern outdoor recreation. It serves as a basecamp for exploring the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful hike through the timber or a weekend of “glamping” with the family, Echo Bluff offers a polished way to experience the raw beauty of the Ozarks.
