Gary was a wealthy Kansas City resident and served as the president of Theodore Gary and Company. He hob-knobbed with Kansas City royalty during the roaring 20’s and 30’s and held lavish events at the estate.

The 12,554 Square Foot home sits on just over 3 Acres among many of the other historic mansions a few blocks south of Country Club Plaza near State Line Road. The Neoclassical Style mansion was built in 1922 and was styled after George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon. It has 8 bedrooms and 8 bath with a red brick exterior and slate roof. The home is complemented by a two-story front porch with columns that span the width of the house.

Hunter Larabee Gary

Gary was born in 1884 and grew up in the small town of Macon, Missouri. He rose to the top of several fields and became a very wealthy businessman who associates say was a financial genius. As you can see from his obituary in the Macon Chronicle-Herald, he had success in several industries. He worked with his father in the telecommunications industry, in the railroad industry, and financial services. He died in Reno, Nevada in 1946 at the age of 62.
