One of the most successful professional football players ever to hail from the Show Me State, Tony Galbreath has three “Hall of Fame” inductions on his resume. He graduated from Fulton High School where he was arguably the best “Hornet” of all time.
He chose the University of Missouri-Columbia to play close to home and rewarded home state fans with amazing performances after two years playing in junior college. The running back was named to the All-Big Eight team in 1974 and was team captain in 1975.
The New Orleans Saints picked him in the second round of the 1976 draft where he became part of the legendary backfield known as “Thunder and Lightning” (Galbreath was the Lightning). He played five extraordinary seasons for the Saints, then went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, where he became a Super Bowl champion in 1987.
He has been inducted into the University of Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame, the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame, and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
