The Pensmore Mansion is the biggest home in Missouri. It’s located in the Ozark Hills near the small town of Highlandville.  The elaborate castle is hidden away in the woods, but can be seen from Highway 65 between Springfield and Branson (if you know where to look.)

It is even one of the largest houses in the United States at more than 72,215 square feet, which is gigantic on any scale.  To put that into perspective, the White House in Washington DC is a mere 54,900 square feet.

According to building records, construction on the behemoth home with 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms began in 2009, but was involved in several lawsuits regarding the concrete building materials which are designed to be earthquake and tornado proof.

Several news stories profiled the construction of the castle, including the fact that the owner once stated that he wanted the structure torn down because it wasn’t built as strong as initially intended, but it does appear that construction continued following the conclusion of the lawsuits against the material manufacturer.
