Lavell Crawford

Lavell Maurice Crawford (born November 11, 1968) is an American stand-up comedian and actor from St. Louis, Missouri.

Life

Crawford attended Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Missouri, where he graduated in 1986.

His mother is Annita Crawford, his sisters are Elonda Goodwin and Erica Roach, and his step-father is Dwight Davis.

As a child, Crawford suffered from numerous hardships, including a struggle with weight, a near drowning at age 10, and abandonment by his father.  However, according his 2011 DVD of the October 23, 2010 “Can a Brother Get Some Love?” show at the Roberts Orpheum Theater in St. Louis, MO, he has reconnected with him.

Career

Crawford’s material is mainly focused on him being a morbidly obese African-American man.

His first break came at a comedy club in Belleville, Illinois, where he hosted an open mic night. The owner of the club was impressed and paid him $250. His first appearances were made on Def Comedy Jam and BET’s Comicview.

He has appeared as a performer on numerous television shows including Premium Blend, The Jamie Foxx Show, Comics Unleashed, Showtime at Apollo, and most recently Last Comic Standing, where he finished second to Jon Reep. He recently taped a special for Comedy Central Presents. Crawford often appears on the E! late night talk show Chelsea Lately. His most notable work is a headliner appearance on All Star Comedy Jam: Live from South Beach. He recently made a cameo on an episode of Comedy Central’s Workaholics.

Crawford has also appeared in Seasons 4 and 5 of AMC’s Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman’s bodyguard Huell.

    He is HUGHE, LARGE and in charge, and I’m not talking about his weight. He is one of the best comedians I have I seen in this era!!!! Give the Man his props! Threw all things he has gone through, he can laugh about it. I have MS and stumbled across him in the hospital. He has kept me laughing.
